We're here to create and harness knowledge, to deliver opportunity for everyone.About the RoleThis is an exciting opportunity for a Graphic Design Technician to join the English and Creative Arts Department within Faculty of Arts and Sciences.Your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining, organising and training students in the safe and appropriate use of the graphic design and departmental resources and equipment
  • Supporting students to use digital software in the production of graphic designs
  • Assisting with the development of ideas and concepts, such as mock-ups and prototypes, and advising on production techniques, This role combines creativity with technical skills. You will work with a range of students to nurture and develop their creative and technical skills in a diverse and dynamic educational environment. Learn new skills and techniques in the areas of emergent technologies such as games, extended realities, AI, UI/UX etc, as the discipline transitions and responds to changes in the industry. You will maintain close links with industry to support staff and students who are working on commercial and external projects.For informal enquiries about this vacancy, you may wish to contact: Neill Cockwill, English & Creative Arts Technology Development Manager atAbout YouAs Graphic Design Technician, you will have

    Knowledge of graphics fundamentals such as layout principles, typography, 2D and 3D design, history of graphic design and visual communication approaches
  • Proficiency in digital programmes such as Adobe Creative suite with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat being essential for module support
  • Knowledge and technical experience of emergent digital technologies which relate to motion graphics, games and web and interface design, such as Adobe Animate, Sketch, Figma, Unreal, Unity etc and/or a willingness to undertake training
  • Knowledge and understanding experience of print production techniques such as large format printing, inkjet and laser printing, the use of specialist paper stocks, screen printing and other printmaking processes such as lino, collagraphy, woodcut etc or a willingness to learn
  • Ability to use equipment such as vinyl cutter, hot foiling, laser etcher, CNC routing, spray painting and spray mounting equipment or willingness to learn
  • Knowledge and technical experience of 3D packaging, bookbinding, papermaking and cutting craft or a willingness to learn.
