PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Up to £54,750 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.PURPOSE OF THE ROLEThis is a crucial role in leading our news coverage in Suffolk, ensuring our storytelling guides our audiences through the major issues in the county. You will demonstrate the highest levels of integrity and impartiality at all times.Some days you will be reacting to and leading the planning of major breaking stories. Other times you will need to use your experience and judgement to instigate follow-ups to existing stories and story ideas. A major part of this role is ensuring we are first with updates on major ongoing stories.As part of the wider East News team, you will also be part of the planning operation covering the region, ensuring Suffolk stories are flagged up in advance to maximise opportunities for them to travel across online, radio and television.WHY JOIN THE TEAMThis is a unique opportunity for an experienced leader with exceptional editorial judgment, integrity and a deep understanding of newsrooms. You will lead the delivery of content across online and audio, and support television output.YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Ensure the Suffolk news agenda delivers impartial reporting and analysis and consistently achieves high impact journalism.
  • Meet the highest journalistic standards and fully observe the BBC's Editorial Guidelines at all times - with impartiality at the very centre of the role.
  • Ensure that output reflects all our communities - a commitment to diversity of representation, portrayal and thought.
  • Use all formats and platforms available to ensure stories are told in the most appropriate way - with a particular focus on reaching underserved and difficult to reach audiences. You will ensure our stories are told in clear and concise terms for all our audiences.
  • Exploit our digital space to ensure that audiences have a digital first offer of trusted news and analysis and interpret the news and place events in a wider context.
  • Demonstrate an ability to lead a team; make a positive contribution to a culture of integrity and co-operation.
