The Winchester College Society (Win Coll Soc) connects a global community of 11,000 former pupils, staff, and parents, fostering philanthropy for the College's strategic goals. Winchester College is seeking a Communications Officer to manage all internal and external communications for Win Coll Soc across various media. Reporting to the Director of Win Coll Soc, this role involves developing and executing a multi-channel communications strategy to engage the College community socially, professionally, and philanthropically. The Communications Officer will be the primary contact for phone, email, and walk-ins, and will collaborate closely with the school's central Marketing and Communications team to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment. Key responsibilities include:
- Website Management: Overseeing the Win Coll Soc website (www.wincollsoc.org), including content creation and publishing, site refreshes, managing the Wykeham Links mentoring platform, enhancing the 'Support Us' section, and publicizing events. You'll also support OW Clubs and Societies, liaise with international Friends groups, assist OWs with online profiles, and provide data analytics.
- Newsletter: Taking full responsibility for the fortnightly electronic newsletter, "the Trust e-Servant," including content agreement, writing, and managing accurate email lists.
- Social Media: Managing and developing Win Coll Soc's social media presence (currently LinkedIn), publishing news, and exploring new platforms.
- Win Coll Soc App: Launching and publicizing the new app in collaboration with the Operations Manager and Director, monitoring usage, and suggesting future developments.
- Publications: Supporting the production of the bi-annual alumni magazine, "the Trusty Servant," by gathering, editing, and proofreading content, managing distribution lists, and coordinating with co-editors. You'll also play a major role in producing the annual "Wykeham Journal," contributing to editorial planning, content development, and managing donor/volunteer lists.
- Publications Microsites & Brochures: Developing microsites for publications, considering additional online content, monitoring usage, and designing other fundraising, event, and communications materials using tools like Canva.
- General Duties: Supporting the team, building relationships across departments, adhering to data protection, safeguarding, and health & safety guidelines, and committing to Win Coll Soc's success. Some evening and weekend work for events will be required. Person Specification The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience creating content for all media (web, social, print).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, high creativity, and innovation.
- Proficiency in social media and graphic design software (e.g., Canva), with a strong understanding of brand alignment and consistency.
- Thorough understanding of GDPR and relevant legislation.
- Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office 365 proficiency.
- Confidence in dealing with diverse individuals, experience with CRM software (or ability to learn quickly), and high accuracy and attention to detail.
- Highly organized, collaborative, able to multi-task and prioritize effectively under pressure.
- A positive, welcoming, customer-service-oriented, self-motivated, and good-humoured demeanour, with strong relationship-building and networking skills.
- A strong sense of integrity, diplomacy, discretion, confidentiality, and an appreciation for independent school ethos, tradition, and innovation. If you have any questions about this vacancy or the recruitment process, please email recruitment@wincoll.ac.uk How to Apply Only applications completed on the school website will be accepted. Please attach a full CV and cover letter with your application. Closing date for applications: Midnight, Tuesday 3 June 2025. Please note that applications will be dealt with as they arrive. Winchester College reserves the right to appoint before the deadline passes. Interviews are expected to be held at the beginning of June.
