Full Job Description
The farm, which is managed by the Facilities Directorate, is seeking to appoint a Pig Farm Stock Person to support the Farm Manager and Deputy Farm Manager with running the pig farming side of the business.
The facility is a farrow to finish unit of 440 sows equipped with state-of-the-art feeding equipment and other innovations to support the University's pig research programme. The site also maintains a 220 sow outdoor unit.
To assist in managing these new facilities, we require an experienced pig farmer to undertake the day-to-day tasks in the running of the indoor and outdoor herd.
You will be responsible for ensuring, to the very best of your ability that animals are reared with minimal levels of mortality and to the standards set out by the Farm
Manager and in accordance with welfare codes and health and safety procedures of this research farm.
The hours are an average of 43 hpw including alternate weekend working. (35 hpw basic full time + 8 hpw Contracted Overtime).
It is not a requirement to live on farm for this role. The farm has some staff accommodation on farm, subject to availability. Where accommodation is taken up, it will be necessary to sign a contract relating to any occupation of the accommodation. The occupier of the property will cover a nominal rental and all bills.
