Full time, permanent and agile working

Chesterfield is a great place to live, work and play, with a proud heritage and significant growth ambitions for the future of its communities. We are the gateway town to the Peak District National Park and centrally located with excellent transport connectivity.

We are looking to recruit a practising Solicitor or Barrister to provide legal advice, support and assistance to council officers and members on contentious and regulatory functions relating to housing law, with a focus on disrepair claims.

The post holder will undertake the full range of civil and criminal litigation and regulatory law work including complex drafting, conducting hearings and appearing as advocate on behalf of the Council in particular in respect of Housing functions.

Substantial experience of complex legal case work (especially on disrepair claims), legislation and procedure in civil courts is essential for this role along with excellent communication skills.

The council is an excellent employer (as reflected in the average length of service), with rewarding conditions which include up to 28 days holiday leave (rising up to 33 after 5 years) plus 8 statutory bank holidays and 1 discretionary day added to the Christmas holiday period. We offer generous sick pay, a flexible hours system (up to 2 days off a month), agile/hybrid working, progressive HR policies, salary sacrifice leisure centre membership, VIVUP employee benefits schemes which offers a range of wellbeing products and services to help employees meet their mental, physical, and financial needs, a cycle to work staff discount scheme, a range of training and development opportunities (we have supported a number of staff members to qualify as solicitors over recent years), and also, access to the local government pension scheme.
