Full Job Description

We are currently recruiting an experienced System Owner to join the Technology team, based at our Doxford Park, Sunderland office. We know how important it is to have a great work-life balance; therefore we offer hybrid working, a blend of office and home-based working. It is key that you can be in the office part of the working week and be flexible to attend on-site meetings as required, therefore we are unable to accommodate remote working.
In the position of System Owner, you will manage a portfolio of products linked to a particular area of the business. You will have responsibility for overseeing the end-to-end management, oversight, and optimisation of IT systems including integrations. Including ensuring system reliability, security, and performance, as well as supporting users and driving continuous improvements. This position will utilise your skills and knowledge in IT systems management, excellent problem-solving skills, and your proactive approach to system ownership.
This is an exciting and rewarding role within a forward-thinking team that always looks at innovative ways of delivering fantastic solutions within the business and evolving the sector., The Systems Owner in the IT department at Gentoo is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and improvement of critical IT systems within the organisation. You will be required to have an understanding of system infrastructure, as well as strong leadership and communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders and ensure that systems meet the needs of the business.

What we are looking for

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, CISSP) are a plus.
Demonstrable experience in IT system administration, focusing on system management, optimisation, and security.
Proficiency in requirements gathering, analysis, and documentation techniques.
Knowledge of operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux), virtualisation technologies, networking, and storage systems.
Highly developed knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) and project management principles.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
Proven leadership abilities and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Experience with ITIL or other IT service management frameworks is preferred.
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is desirable.
Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience of the following is highly desirable:
Housing System Portfolio (e.g. Housing Management Systems and Income Management Systems), Corporate Services System Portfolio (e.g. Legal Case Management, Health & Safety Case Management, HR)
Experience in vendor, procurement and contract management is highly desirable.
Familiarity with relational databases, SQL queries, and data analysis tools is desirable.
