Start Date: September 2025

We are seeking to appoint a School Librarian from September 2025 to join our mission to promote reading amongst our young people. The Library at Langley is the heart of our school and we strive to ensure that everyone in our community is a reader. Our Library is a warm and welcoming environment in which pupils can read, learn and thrive. We want pupils to continue to access our library as a safe haven for them as readers but also as a centre for intervention, tuition and independent study.

The successful candidate will have a passion for books and reading but also for young people. We are looking for an optimistic person who enjoys working with young people and finding varied and creative ways to engage pupils with books, building confidence and faith in their own ability to succeed. You will be joining our friendly and welcoming English Faculty with experience and supportive staff. We were visited by Ofsted in March 2023 and were graded Good. We are very proud of our inclusive, welcoming school where pupils behave and learn in a calm and purposeful environment.

Our school's fundamental principles focus on supporting, challenging and inspiring the whole Langley community 'to be the best that we can be'. But these are not simply words on paper. Students, staff and governors genuinely give all they can, to bring those principles to life every day. Examinations are critically important, of course, and our students achieve superbly well in them, but we truly believe in developing young people to deal with the tests of their lifetime, not merely to endure a lifetime of tests. Everyone who visits us comments on the unique ethos of our school as well as our commitment to inclusivity.

If you would like to find out more about the post, please contact our Head of English, Sarah Astley at s206sastley@langley.solihull.sch.uk. Please find attached a person specification, job description, candidate pack and our application and recruitment monitoring form. We look forward to receiving your application.

Please email to Headteacher's PA, Becky Friend, at s206rfriend@langley.solihull.sch.uk

Closing date: Sunday 6th July 2025

Proposed interview date: Friday 11th July 2025

Langley School staff, governors and students are committed to the safeguarding and welfare of students and staff. Pre-employment checks in line with KCSIE will be carried out for successful applicants. The safeguarding responsibilities of the position are detailed in the Job Description and Person Specification. As the work of this post involves working with children, adults at risk or in a position of trust, it is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Please note that Disclosure & Barring Service clearance at the appropriate level will be required for this post. Where this post meets the definition of Regulated Activity (as defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) the relevant barred list(s) for children and adults will also be checked. You must disclose details of all unfiltered reprimands, formal warnings, cautions and convictions as these will be disclosed by the DBS. It is an offence to apply for a role which involves regulated activity by an applicant who is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
