Full Job Description
The History of Art portfolio in the Department for Continuing Education comprises a wide range of courses taught on a part-time basis at undergraduate and postgraduate level. This provision includes a History of Art specialisation in the Undergraduate Certificate of Higher Education, an Undergraduate Certificate in History of Art, an Undergraduate Diploma in History of Art, an MSt in Literature and Arts, open access Weekly Classes and Short Online Courses, day and weekend events and lecture series, and summer schools, as well as Continuing Professional Development courses in the Department's Cultural Heritage training programme. The History of Art provision in the Department for Continuing Education is at a moment of growth, with the introduction of a newly revised Undergraduate programme and future plans to develop and expand the curriculum. This is a full-time position, available on a permanent contract. About you We are seeking a scholar who has excellent teaching and pedagogical skills, and whose scholarship engages with current critical and theoretical debates in the discipline. We invite candidates whose scholarship focusses on the art of the Global South, specialising in either early modern or modern art and material culture. We encourage applications from scholars whose teaching and scholarship engage with issues such as imperial and colonial histories and legacies; materiality and making; gender and sexuality; ecology and the environment; race and racialisation; or class, poverty and inequality and whose teaching and scholarship takes a transnational or cross-cultural approach. We particularly invite scholars who have had curatorial experience or whose teaching and scholarship is object-led, as the post would involve opportunities to work with colleagues at the Ashmolean Museum and to use the collections of the Ashmolean Museum and other GLAM (Galleries, Libraries and Museums) institutions in Oxford.
