Full Job Description
The Safeguarding Practitioner is expected to provide expertise and knowledge demonstrating a sound understanding of safeguarding issues to support Trust staff in the identification, assessment, treatment and management of vulnerable children and families and adults. To contribute to the development, the delivery of the safeguarding education programmes and support the function of the Multi-agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH)., · Contribute to the delivery of Safeguarding services as detailed in Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018, Children's Acts 1989 & 2004, Care Act 2014 and other national and local legislation and policy. · To support the development and implementation of safeguarding practice across the Trust ensuring effective multi-agency liaison, meeting the statutory requirements. · Provide specialist advice, support and guidance to all Trust staff in relation to legislation, policy, multiagency procedures for safeguarding our patients at risk of abuse or neglect to embed the principles of safeguarding into every day professional practice. · Attend multi-agency case conference meetings, strategy meetings and other safeguarding related meetings as agreed with the Safeguarding Named Nurse/Professional, Operational Safeguarding Manager or Head of Safeguarding. · Disseminate and communicate decisions and appropriate health information to relevant health professionals including the Named Nurse and/or Doctor where appropriate and sharing of best practice. · Contribute to the development and delivery of the training requirements that the team is responsible for within the Trust. · Work in partnership with the patients' families / carers to be actively involved in the caring process on behalf of the patient. · Communicate effective information to patients/relatives/carers/ and all members of the multidisciplinary team., · Support the Name Nurse/Professional to develop, implement and review safeguarding practice across the Trust and networks. · To deputise for named nurse/ professional as and when required in an operational capacity. · Participate in MASH multi-agency risk assessments to inform on case management, advising and challenging decisions when appropriate, provide timely information within the bounds of patient confidentiality and information sharing guidance. · Be able to participate in specific working groups to achieve targets, objectives and audits in relation to safeguarding children and the MASH, taking a lead for identified areas where agreed · To demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of the team and work across agency and organisational boundaries. · To utilise the Trust IT systems, Oxford Health IT systems, MASH data base and Social Care IT systems in accordance with information sharing agreements. · Maintain data collections that will provide timely and accurate data. · Undertake audit when required in the Safeguarding team. · To deliver safeguarding training to support the safeguarding competencies of staff. · Develop good communication and liaison networks with all disciplines across a variety of statutory agencies including social care, police and voluntary agencies. · Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records of involvement of safeguarding in line with Trust policy and NMC guidance. · Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of nursing practice relevant to the clinical area. · Will work in partnership with the Adult safeguarding team in support of the Think Family agenda. · Undertake case reviews, develop chronologies and participate in investigations to contribute to the implementation for solutions.
- Registered nurse/midwife or National certification in area of practice with a minimum 2 years post qualifying experience
- Current NMC registration
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and training
- Teaching / Assessment / Mentoring qualification Desirable criteria
- Specialist Public Health Practitioner
- Evidence of continued learning, Sound knowledge base of current legislation and statutory guidance relating to Safeguarding Children and Adults
- Knowledge of national and local safeguarding policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Working knowledge of children and maternal health and development understating the nature and impact of child maltreatment.
- Understanding of the implementation of Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
- Demonstrate knowledge relevant to Working Together practices to safeguarding children and adults
- Demonstrate an understanding of partnership working across services and agencies Desirable criteria
- Experience of delivering training
