Full Job Description
Locum Consultant in Spinal Injuries
NHS Scotland
- Location: Glasgow Edenhall, Cumbria
- Salary: £107,144-142,369 per year
- Contract: Full-time
- Posted: 11 hours ago
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an appropriately experienced consultant to support the National Spinal Injuries Unit on a fixed term basis. The post is offered on a one year basis in the first instance with the potential to extend.
The Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries Unit is responsible for the management of all patients in Scotland who have a traumatic injury to the spinal cord. Commissioned in 1992 it has continued to develop the management of the acute injury and life time care of all of its patients to maximize function and to prevent the complications of paralysis. Facilities include a combined Admission Ward and HDU (Edenhall) and a Rehabilitation Ward (Philipshill) with a Respiratory Care Unit. In addition there is a custom built Step-Down Unit for patients and relatives and Research Mezzanine (Glasgow University) which ensures that researchers are embedded in the Unit. Clinical services are provided at the Glasgow centre and appropriate outreach clinics as required.
You will be appropriately experienced and qualified, fully registered with a license to practice with the GMC and either included on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of completion of your Specialist training or CESR(CP). Applicants will be considered with experience in the following areas: spinal surgery, rehabilitation medicine, acute medicine, respiratory medicine, neuroanaesthetics. Non UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday.
Informal Contact: Dr Mariel Purcell - Margaret.Purcell@nhs.scot for further information, informal discussion or to schedule a visit to the Unit. Please route any queries via Details on how to contact the Recruitment Service can be found within the Candidate Information Packs.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde encourages applications from all sections of the community. We promote a culture of inclusion across the organisation and are proud of the diverse workforce we have.
By signing the Armed Forces Covenant, NHSGGC has pledged its commitment to being a Forces Friendly Employer. We support applications from across the Armed Forces Community, recognising military skills, experience and qualifications during the recruitment and selection process.
Candidates should provide original and authentic responses to all questions within the application form. The use of artificial intelligence (AI), automated tools, or other third-party assistance to generate, draft, or significantly modify responses is strongly discouraged. By submitting your application, you confirm that all answers are your own work, reflect your personal knowledge, skills and experience, and have not been solely produced or altered by AI or similar technologies. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in your application being withdrawn from the application process.
For application portal/log-in issues, please contact in the first instance.
