The MSW will work with individual women, families and in group settings throughout the pregnancy and postnatal period. The MSW will undertake a range of duties including: personal care of women and babies, providing information and advice on self-care, infant care and initiating breastfeeding, health promotion, clerical, educational and housekeeping duties to ensure the smooth running of the midwifery team.,
- To provide high standard and quality of care to women, birthing people and their families in accordance with trust values, clinical policies, procedures and guidelines.
- To undertake phlebotomy in antenatal clinics/scan clinics (including booking bloods and antenatal screening).
- To transport specimens from community to hospital as required
- To undertake routine maternal observations, urine testing, height, weight and BMI calculations in all clinical areas.
- To assist the midwives in the smooth running of community antenatal clinics
- To assist in clerical duties including inputting and retrieving computer data
- To assist the midwives in ensuring the woman receives information regarding healthy eating, smoking cessation and infant feeding
- To provide breastfeeding support in community
- To take emergency action as necessary to safeguard women and babies, and notify the midwife of the situation as soon as possible
- To carry out any other reasonable duties as may be required , which are commensurate with the grade and nature of the post, to meet the needs of the service
- To weigh babies and perform Newborn Blood Spot Screening.
