Full Job Description
We are currently seeking to appoint an aspiring finance professional to join our hard-working and friendly Finance team as a Finance Business Support Apprentice. You will work alongside the Accountants, Finance Business Advisors and Business Support Officers to support the Finance function in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance/Accounting Service and to provide an accurate and timely general administrative service to support all aspects of the Council's business role. You will support the delivery of high-quality financial services within the Council while gaining valuable workplace experience and working toward a recognised professional finance qualification (AAT). The successful candidate will receive full support for completing an AAT apprenticeship, including study time, training resources, and mentorship from qualified professionals within the Council. Wyre Forest District Council has a strong track record in supporting apprenticeship and there is the possibility of a permanent role for the right candidate when the apprenticeship ends. Ideally you will be able to work independently and work well as part of a team. You will be a quick learner, able to pick up tasks with a willingness to get involved. No candidate will meet every single desired qualification so if your experience looks a little different from what we've identified and you think you can bring value to the role, we'd love to learn more about you. Local government reorganisation is being driven forward by central government, this means that the council will remain sovereign until at least 1 April 2028 after which a new unitary authority will deliver services in the district. This means an exciting time with lots of opportunities to help shape the outlook for local government in the area.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills, accuracy and attention to detail You will be able to work independently and also work well as part of a team. Flexibility is key, as you will work in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines and priorities. You should be IT literate with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office in particular Excel and be excited to begin your AAT journey. You will have 5 GCSEs to include maths and English at grade 4 or above.
