This position holds so much potential to make a real and lasting impact on Herefordshire's transport landscape. We're on a mission to create a transport network that's inclusive, reliable, and truly serves our community-and we need someone with vision, expertise, and passion to help us get there.

Are you passionate about shaping the future of transport in a county that beautifully blends urban dynamism with rural charm? Would you like to take your transport career to the next level, and be the driving force for the next chapter in Herefordshire's future? You could be taking forward our plans to deliver the very best for our residents and businesses, enabling a rapid leap forward in connectivity and sustainability across a large, predominantly rural, ambitious Local Authority. You will play a key role in policy development, staff training, and service improvement initiatives. Be the change maker! This is your chance to lead, innovate and make a real difference to the community of Herefordshire.
  • You will take on some of our great strategic challenges - the Local Transport Plan, Active Travel, County-wide engagement, policy horizon scanning, infrastructure strategy - and bring your skills, expertise and tenacious manner to building the very best transport networks, be it public transport, walking, cycling and wheeling, or those to support housing and economic growth. If you are enthusiastic about building your career and building a new era of transport then this could be the role for you, the Council are dedicated to developing our staff and as such the post comes with formal Transport Planning training if needed. The ultimate goal of the Transport planning team is to deliver better experiences for passengers, residents and businesses, better connectivity both inward and outward to our neighbours, region and nations and ultimately a better place to live. Our goal is to ensure transport is a focus for all relevant plans from a wide range of council departments, for example the Local Plan, Climate Change mitigation plan, Public Health, Care leavers plan, and so on. You will need to build alliances and relationships across the whole council, and with the many external agencies we work with. This is a key role taking a leading position in what and how we deliver connectivity, and how we make intelligent investment decisions for DfT funding streams. This role offers not just a platform to make an impact, but also a chance to grow your career in a workplace that values your expertise and ambition with formal training already funded and lots more opportunities to develop available., I know first-hand what a supportive and ambitious team we have here at Herefordshire Council, and I'm genuinely looking forward to collaborating with the right person to drive positive change. If you're ready to tackle challenges and be part of something meaningful, I can't wait to see what you'll bring to the table. Together we can make a real difference to our communities. So don't delay and apply now!", Herefordshire is big hearted, welcoming and friendly. We have strong and independent communities and idyllic countryside, situated in the South West Midlands and bordering Wales. The county sits between Worcestershire and the Malvern Hills to the east, and Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons) in Wales to the west. Historically Herefordshire has been the gateway to the Marches. We embrace partnership working. We are a member of the Marches Forward Partnership, which is a cross border collaboration between Herefordshire, Monmouthshire, Powys and Shropshire who are collectively working to secure funding to invest in the region. The council priorities over the next four years are set out in the Council Plan, with four main areas; People: We will enable residents to realise their potential, to be healthy and to be part of great communities who support each other. We want all children to have the best start in life. Place: We will protect and enhance our environment and ensure that Herefordshire is a great place to live. We will support the right housing in the right place, we will support access to green spaces and we will do everything we can to recover the health of our rivers. Growth: We will create the conditions to deliver sustainable growth across the county; attracting inward investment, building business confidence, creating jobs, enabling housing development along with providing the right infrastructure. Transformation: We will be an efficient council that embraces best practice, delivers innovation through technology and demonstrates value for money.
