Full Job Description
Term of Appointment: Trustees are appointed for a period of 3 years and are expected to serve a maximum of 2 terms of office (totaling 6 years). As a cornerstone of creativity in the East of England, Norwich Theatre champions bold storytelling, inclusive participation, and artistic excellence, attracting famous names to its stages and supporting the work of emerging artists too. We are looking for 2 Trustees and an additional Trustee who will be Chair of our Audit and Risk Committee. We are looking for Trustees who shares our values and can bring governance insight, financial acumen, and a collaborative spirit to help shape our future. This is a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise and insight to an organisation that inspires, challenges, and connects communities through the magic of live performance. Chair of Audit and Risk Committee: Norwich Theatre is seeking a dedicated and insightful individual to join our Board of Trustees and take on the vital role of Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee. As a Trustee and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee, you will:
- Provide strategic oversight of Norwich Theatre's financial health, risk management, and internal controls.
- Lead the Audit and Risk Committee, working closely with fellow trustees, the Executive Team, and auditors.
- Ensure compliance with charity and company law and uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability.
- Act as a key ambassador for Norwich Theatre, championing our mission and values both internally and externally.
- Embrace and promote the Nolan Principles of public life and champion equity, diversity, and inclusion in all decision-making., Work closely with the executive and fundraising teams to support our philanthropic ambitions and strategic partnerships.
- Act as a high-level ambassador for Norwich Theatre, helping to build relationships with donors, funders, and cultural influencers.
- Champion our mission and values, engaging actively with our programme, people, and audiences.
- Embrace and promote the Nolan Principles of public life, and ensure equity, diversity, and inclusion are central to your contribution., Trustee 3: We are looking for a Trustee who can bring commercial insight, enterprise thinking, and a growth mindset to support our long-term resilience and ambition. This is a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise and insight to an organisation that inspires, challenges, and connects communities through the magic of live performance. As Trustee, you will:
- Provide strategic guidance on income diversification, commercial innovation, and enterprise development.
- Act as a sounding board and strategic partner to the executive team, helping to identify and shape new business opportunities.
- Contribute actively to board discussions, ensuring good governance and alignment with our charitable mission.
- Champion our values and engage meaningfully with our programme, people, and audiences.
- Embrace and promote the Nolan Principles of public life, and ensure equity, diversity, and inclusion are central to your contribution.
Senior-level experience in finance, audit, or risk management. - A recognised financial qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent expertise.
- A strong understanding of charity governance and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience chairing or contributing to Audit and Risk Committees.
- Excellent judgement, communication skills, and a collaborative leadership style. - A proven ability to support strategic innovation and enterprise within mission-led or complex organisations.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with executive teams and fellow trustees.
- A personal or professional connection to Norwich or Norfolk, or a strong interest in engaging with the region's cultural life.
