Full Job Description
Expect diverse tasks. Dive into meaty projects, collaborate cross-discipline, and adjust on the fly to nature's whims as an ecologist. While the pace is lively, there are moments to pause and reflect. No two days are the same. Join our outstanding ecology team, where you will be required to work closely with the Director of the Leeds office, the Regional Ecology Director for the North and the Operational Ecology Lead in the Manchester office to increase the ecology pipeline for Yorkshire and beyond, cultivate and maintain relationships with new and existing clients and build the ecology team. Furthermore, you will be responsible for managing exciting and complex projects from start to finish and enabling our team to land projects they love. Expectations include:
- You know how to plan, design and carry out Ecological Surveys including UK Habs and protected species
An exciting opportunity to further develop our ecological presence in our North region. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Associate Ecologist to join the team in our recently opened Leeds office., You have experience mentoring and leading budding consultants and graduates - You have experience leading and/or managing a team
- You are able to forge genuine and rewarding relationships with clients and champion their projects
- You thrive at solving problems for clients
- You enjoy business development and are willing to seek out and attend client events and networking opportunities to build pipeline across all TG disciplines in Yorkshire and the wider region
- You have extensive experience in project management and budget management including forecasting and invoicing
- You are confident producing and reviewing / approving Preliminary Ecology Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments, Biodiversity Net Gain Reports, Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements, Habitats Regulations Assessments and Mitigation Strategies
- Advising clients on ecological constraints, opportunities, and mitigation strategies.
- Working collaboratively with landscape planning, green/blue infrastructure, landscape design and arboriculture teams to deliver integrated project solutions.

- Top academic qualifications in ecology or biological sciences
- To be a CIEEM member working towards Chartership
- Excellent survey skills including extended Phase I/UKHabs, specialised species surveys (holding at least one licence or specialisation) and/or botanical assessments
- Excellent report writing and reviewing skills
- A developed understanding of legislative and planning policy framework
- To be proactive in your engagement with clients to make sure we're listening to their needs and addressing their challenges
- To have experience in being accountable for steering larger projects as a Project Director, ensuring their successful completion
- Confidence in liaising with statutory bodies and LPAs
- Enthusiasm for being a team player, always ready to inspire and be inspired
- A commitment to the pursuit of excellence
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience of EIA and HRA and a good knowledge of the planning system
- Desirable to have at least one protected species license
- A full UK driving licence
