Would you like the opportunity to lead complex investigations of Regulatory Health & Safety criminal offences?, The MCA's Regulatory, Compliance and Investigations team (RCIT), work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the effective enforcement of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 and other maritime legislation, including undertaking proactive compliance activities and investigating and prosecuting offenders where appropriate.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Head, RCIT your responsibilities will include, but aren't limited to:

1. Manage and conduct a range of serious and complex investigations into alleged breaches of Merchant Shipping legislation and relevant UK
2. Work together and liaise with external partners conducting investigations
3. Gather, verify, and assess all appropriate and available information to gain an accurate understanding of situations to an agreed case investigation plan
4. Develop and evaluate strategies to manage investigations
5. Prepare, complete, and submit accurate case papers and evidential files to the highest professional standard and within set time limits
6. Handle and document exhibits as evidence custodian, ensuring items are securely stored and logged
Additional Information
+ Travel on official duty to all parts of the UK or in the rest of the world, sometimes at short notice
+ On occasions, there will be a requirement to work outside normal conditioned hours
+ Participation in the on-call duty Enforcement Officer Rota
+ Attendance at mandatory department meetings in and around the UK

This works out at 74 working hours, condensed into 9 working days.
This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.
The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your principal workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, visiting stakeholders and colleagues, or carrying out detached duty in another DfT or agency workplace. The chosen principal workplace will be the designated place of work and any remote or home working arrangement does not constitute a change to the designated place of work or contractual terms and conditions. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation. The sift will take place week commencing Monday 4th August 2025.
Stage 2: Assessment Day
At assessment stage, you will be invited to attend an assessment day which will include a group exercise and the need for you to give a short presentation on the behaviour Communicating and Influencing.
The assessment will take place in person at our Southampton or Manchester office. You will be assessed against the following Success Profile elements:

The assessment day will take place week commencing Monday 18th August 2025.
Stage 3: Interview
At interview stage, you will be assessed against the following Success Profile elements:

2. Strengths
The interviews will take place week commencing Monday 1st September 2025.
