Full Job Description

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has established the new Building Safety Regulator (BSR) to ensure high-risk residential buildings (HRBs) are safe and to enable people to feel safe in their homes.
BSR will oversee changes to the safety and performance of all buildings and raise industry professional standards year after year, working with residents and industry to make sure everybody has a voice in achieving this goal. BSR will serve as a lasting tribute to those who have lost their lives due to poor and substandard buildings and will help ensure tragedies of such proportions as Grenfell are consigned to the past.
This is an exciting time to join BSR, and as part of this team you will be responsible for shaping an internal culture of high performance and continuous improvement and bringing about cultural change in building safety in your community and in the future.
Part time working hours are available for this role. We can accept part time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 30 hours over 4 days per week., As one of the Building Safety Regulatory Leads, you will lead and manage Multi Disciplinary Teams (MDTs) of regulatory partners i.e. structural safety, planning and fire risk specialists from local authorities, fire services and the private sector to scrutinise the building control applications, building and management of HRBs., + You will be responsible for assessing compliance against the regulatory requirements and standards and making efficient and effective decisions to ensure compliance within the HRB functions. For roles in both functions, you will report to the Principal Building Safety Regulatory Lead. We are looking for people who are leaders and able to work collaboratively with others to deliver effective regulatory compliance for HRBs. You will have a caseload and you will be responsible for making consistent decisions on regulatory outcomes.
+ You will use the technical and specialist analysis by the partner regulators to inform your decision and proposed actions. This will include taking enforcement action where appropriate.
+ As the leader of the MDTs, you will determine the level of scrutiny of the property required, including site visits. You will be supported by Building Safety Division Case Officers who will support you and the MDT partners in gathering all relevant material to enable you to make your proportionate and effective decisions. Your performance relies on the delivery from others. You will have a key role in managing and monitoring the performance of MDT members to ensure the business objectives are being met.

Essential Skills and Criteria;
+ Experience in Regulation, compliance, construction, building design or property management
+ Managing the delivery of multiple workstreams
+ Ensuring effective performance of partners and suppliers
+ Conducting difficult conversations
+ Assessing multiple sources of evidence to determine compliance against a legal standard
This role offers a hybrid working pattern where your working week can be split between your home and your local HSE office, details of which can be discussed prior to taking up the role.
This role may involve occasional travel to other HSE offices with some overnight stays, including the potential for some site visits., You will also be asked to complete an anonymised Personal Statement, of no more than 750 words which demonstrates how you meet the essential skills and criteria listed within the person specification.
