Job ref: 0fb4abfb8e1c460ea27fd0950c431039

Full Job Description

This is an outstanding opportunity offered within 11 Sqn, and is varied, rewarding and exciting! Do you have the passion to deliver maritime support within 11Sqn on a variety of small craft? Are you a pro-active, hard-working individual? One who is motivated to play an engaging, interesting and critical part in our support to Navy Command's role to generate and operate forces for today and to ensure we are ready for tomorrow by developing and delivering the Navy of the future.
In order to deliver its outputs, 11 Squadron relies on an adaptable team with a good understanding of the customers' requirements; the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate at interview an ability to fit in and collaborate as part of this team.
Timing of 11 Squadron's activities is constrained by tidal conditions which means that there will be requirements to work outside normal hours for which a premium will be paid in line with MOD policy
Continuous Amphibious Readiness is one of the Royal Navy's key outputs. 47 Commando Raiding Group Royal Marines (47Cdo (RG) RM) delivers support to the Commando Force's amphibious capability. Within 47Cdo, 11 Squadron, based at RM Instow, enables this with the trials and development of amphibious equipment that is at the forefront of Future Commando Force, and delivering specialist amphibious training on a variety of vehicles and boats to project and sustain forces from the sea. The successful candidate will work as part of Zeta Berth crew, a small team delivering maritime support on a variety of military craft ranging from Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIB) to the Landing Craft Utility (LCU), that support the UK Amphibious capability by delivering training to RM students.
Much of 11 Squadron's work is experimental in nature, therefore there will be opportunities to participate in innovative trials and development activity.
Depending upon experience and qualifications, the successful applicant may be required to travel and stay overnight in order to complete training vital to fulfil the role.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week., 1. To assist in the safe and effective operation of 11sqn landing craft and other small boats.
2. To assist in the maintenance of landing craft and small boats at Zeta Berth.
3. To support the Bosun in Command (BIC) with the safety of all passengers and crew aboard the craft while afloat.
This role requires a degree of physical ability, as it involves loading and unloading of goods and other manual handling tasks.
Some of the work undertaken will be inside the engine room of the craft with restricted access and or confined spaces.
Roles can offer great job satisfaction and there are many opportunities to develop and progress both within the Department and across the wider Civil Service.
In Navy Command, our civil servants work alongside their military colleagues in jobs that matter; jobs which often have a direct impact on the quality of the operational capabilities we deliver.
Other Responsibilities
1. To secure loads onboard craft
2. To support the maintenance of the jetty and pontoons at Zeta Berth
3. To support the team with the road movement of craft spares.
Depending upon experience and qualifications, travel including overnight stays will be required in order to complete training vital to fulfil the role.
