Full Job Description
We are excited to offer the opportunity to join our wonderful school and work with our exceptional learners. This is a fantastic opportunity for a creative, resilient and open-minded individual to work with our exceptional Post 16 learners and help to prepare them for adulthood. The appointed person will support learners with Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties (SEMH) in their transition to adulthood by delivering personalised academic, vocational, and life skills programmes. The role focuses on building independence, confidence, and real-world readiness through a combination of accredited learning, practical experiences, and transition planning. Main duties include:
- Deliver tailored academic and vocational sessions aligned with EHCP outcomes and individual learning needs
- Deliver PfA programme to Post-16 learners (training available)
- Deliver Forest School across the school (training available)
- Teach and support learners in engaging subject areas, including: o Prince's Trust programmes - fostering teamwork, confidence, and employability o Animal Care - developing responsibility, empathy, and routine-based skills o ASDAN qualifications - promoting personal development, life skills, and preparation for work o Allotment-based learning - encouraging sustainability, health, and hands-on engagement with nature o Cookery and independent living - supporting food preparation, hygiene, nutrition, & budgeting skills What you'll need to succeed The appointed candidate will have experience working with learners who have behavioural difficulties. You will have a broad knowledge of strategies used for teaching children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and those who have a diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder (ASD). You will know how to develop, provide and deliver behavioural support for learners and how to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding of staff. Requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Experience delivering ASDAN, Prince's Trust, or similar alternative curriculum programmes
- Knowledge of EHCPs and the four key Preparation for Adulthood areas
- Experience working with children with special educational needs (SEN), particularly Autism and SEMH
- Desirable - practical experience in any of the following: cookery, horticulture, animal care, vocational training, Forest School or a willingness to learn. About Wilds Lodge Wilds Lodge School is an independent 38 week specialist boarding and day provision for boys and girls (girls are accepted as day learners only) for learners aged between 5 and 19 with social, emotional and mental health difficulties, set in Empingham, Rutland. All the learners at the school have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). It was established in 2007 and aims to place an equal emphasis on the educational, social and psychological development of our learners. The key to the success of the school is a strong ethos, developed by a highly experienced and capable staff, and the strength of the relationships between the staff and the learners. We are a friendly school where staff are supportive of each other inside and outside of the classroom. We pride ourselves in ensuring all members of staff including our support staff have access to regular training. All our members of staff attend regular training on child protection; mental health and multi-agency working.
