Full Job Description

MA students and final-year undergraduates. These three modules, which arealready well-established, require the post holder to organise visits to majormuseums and galleries in London and to arrange guest speakers. You will alsocontribute to tutoring and marking on the MA in Arts Administration and CulturalPolicy programme on museum/gallery topics, and take on administrative duties. Youwill work closely with other programme convenors.Main duties:

  • To develop and deliver teaching materials, teach, set assessments, mark, provide
  • timely feedback for three modules, teaching to a set framework
  • To lead and co-ordinate the operation of these modules with colleagues and central
  • administration staff to ensure student needs are met
  • To work with central departments on recruitment, admissions, and conversion of
  • applicants to the PG Cert in Museums and Galleries in Practice
  • To act as a personal tutor to students
  • To supervise research by MA students
  • Translate knowledge of advances in the subject areas into the course of study and
  • respond to pedagogical and practical challenges
  • To deliver an excellent student experience, support and professional development

  • To contribute to developing and maintaining materials for marketing of the PG Cert
  • in Museums and Galleries in Practice, including input to the production of publicity materials where required and identification of potential external markets and contacts, and attendance at College Open Days
  • Work with other academic staff to develop and maintain a database of partners and
  • potential partners, to build a network of contacts for the Institute, and to assist with the creation of profiles of alumni for marketing purposes.
  • To take a share of the administrative activities that are the normal part of any
  • academic department, taking responsibility to plan and carry out allocated administrative tasks
  • You will be required to undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required

    We are seeking a highly motivated academic with expertise in the fields of museumstudies, museology, art gallery management, or appropriate related discipline, andproven teaching experience. This is for a fixed-term, fractional (0.7 FTE) position. Thesuccessful candidate will bring their skills to contribute to teaching and assessment ofstudents, covering specific needs within the department. The successful candidate willhave completed, or nearly completed, a PhD (or equivalent). You will be responsiblefor convening three modules: Interpretation, Education and Communication in theArt Museum at the MA level, along with the component modules of the PG, A PhD (or be near completion of PhD) in a museum-related, arts A, I, R management, curatorship or other relevant field. Desirable Criteria 1 - Qualifications Teaching in higher education certificate (e.g., FHEA, SFHEA, PGCert A, C Higher Education). Essential Criteria 2 - Experience Proven experience in professional practice such as gallery education A, C, I Industry experience working in museums and galleries or within a A, I creative or cultural organisation Experience in developing and delivering lectures, talks, facilitating A, C, I, P discussion A proven track record in developing the skills and education profile of A, P, C, R HE students Desirable Criteria 2 - Experience An emerging scholarship portfolio that has the capacity to be A, I internationally leading Clear ideas, potential, and ambition relating to future scholarship that A,I will be internationally leading Essential Criteria 3 - Knowledge An excellent knowledge of the museum sector, cultural theory, and A, I, R, P familiarity with art history. A sound knowledge of emerging themes for museums such as A, I, R, P digitisation, globalisation, distribution, intellectual property Understanding of art history, cultural history, cultural policy, and specific cultural bodies, e.g., Arts Council England, DCMS, Museums A, I, R, P Association Knowledge of essential skills, knowledge and competencies that support museums and galleries in the creative, cultural, or enterprise A, I, R, P sectors Desirable Criteria 3 - Knowledge Collaborative links with museums and galleries, especially arts A, I organisations in the London area A commitment to, and appreciation of, the mission of contributing to continuing growth of the PG Certificate in Museums and Galleries in A, I Practice, and ability to work intensively as part of a small team in this direction.
