Full Job Description
Oxford Department of International Development, Queen Elizabeth House, 3 Mansfield Road, Oxford OX1 3TB. The Oxford Department of International Development (ODID) seeks applications for a full-time Departmental Lectureship in Development Studies with a fixed term of two years. The Departmental Lecturer will be responsible to the Head of Department and work under the supervision of the Course Director of the MPhil in Development Studies. We would welcome applications from those with research and teaching interests in historical and political approaches in development studies. The MPhil seeks to promote diversification and decolonization of the curriculum and teaching approaches. Preference may be given to a regional focus on Africa. Key Responsibilities:
- Teach on courses in the MPhil in Development Studies as needed, including the foundation course in History and Politics, the Core Course in Development Studies, and the Research Methods course.
- Supervise MPhil graduate students
- Contribute to the administration of the MPhil in Development Studies, and undertake related duties identified by the Course Director, including participating in the admissions process.
- Manage own academic research activities, conduct independent research, and generate original ideas to build on existing concepts.
- Contribute to collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions and research groups. This post is offered full time and fixed-term for 2 years.
The successful applicant will hold, or be close to completion of, a doctorate in development studies, history, politics, or a closely related field, with an emphasis on history and/or political approaches. They will also have an aptitude for teaching and some experience of teaching and research. A sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge in the subject to develop course materials and research proposals are essential for this role.
