Full Job Description

The Northumberland Emotional Wellbeing and Behaviour Support Service is a peripatetic education support team working with school staff and multi-disciplinary professionals to assess the needs of learners (predominantly between the ages of 3 and 16 years old) with emotional wellbeing and behaviour needs and subsequently to support the school or setting in the implementation and evaluation of appropriate strategies and approaches. We place a strong emphasis on building capacity within schools through a process of consultation and training. We are looking for a EWB Worker with a significant level of experience working with children and young people with emotional wellbeing and behaviour needs within an educational setting and who has knowledge and experience of implementing evidence-based interventions and approaches to support learners with this range of needs. The successful candidate will: be highly motivated; have excellent time management and organisational skills; have good writing skills; be committed to supporting inclusion within mainstream school settings and be able to fulfil the travel requirements of an agile worker working into schools and settings across a large rural county. Staff may work directly with designated pupils and young people to meet their identified social, emotional and behavioural needs as well as working alongside school staff to help build the capacity required to enable them to manage the needs of the children and young people in their care. The Emotional Wellbeing and Behaviour Support Worker will work collaboratively with, and under the supervision of, the EWB Specialist Teachers employed within the team. The key duties of the role are:

  • modelling the use of evidence-based strategies, approaches and intervention programmes in settings and schools across Northumberland.
  • Working directly with designated pupils in settings either individually or in small groups, dependent on the level of complex needs.
  • Liaising as necessary with all staff involved with designated pupils, offering advice and strategies to develop and maintain consistent approaches to enable the successful inclusion of children and young people with emotional wellbeing and behaviour needs in schools and settings.
  • Contributing to the development of Individual Support Plans through the identification of appropriate outcomes and providing strategies and resources related to the delivery of the plan.
  • Being responsible for the planning and delivery of programmes of work to develop social/emotional skills.
  • Maintaining agreed service records.
  • Liaison with parents/carers

The Northumberland Emotional Wellbeing and Behaviour Support Service is currently made up of 6 qualified Teachers and 5 Emotional Wellbeing and Behaviour Support Workers (EWBSW) who provide a range of services into schools and settings throughout Northumberland. The day-to-day operational management and organisation of the team is the responsibility of the EWB Lead Practitioner who in turn reports to the High Incidence Needs Team (HINT) Manager. The service operates from a centralised base in Morpeth working peripatetically into schools and settings across Northumberland.
