Job Summary

Ready to lead, inspire and make a real difference to the patient experience? This is an exciting opportunity to take on a key leadership role within the Ophthalmology Service, part of the Head & Neck Clinical Service Unit (CSU) within the Trust. As Supervisor, you will lead and support a dedicated Administrative and Clerical team, overseeing the cash-up team and clerical officers to ensure the smooth and efficient running of daily services. Working closely with the Assistant Patient Services Co-ordinator and Patient Services Co-ordinator, you will play a vital role in maintaining high standards of service delivery and ensuring patients receive a positive, efficient and welcoming experience.

We are looking for an organised, proactive and approachable individual with excellent communication skills, the confidence to make decisions and the ability to motivate and support colleagues in a busy healthcare environment. If you thrive on leading a team, tackling challenges and making a meaningful difference to patient care, this is an excellent opportunity to grow your leadership skills and help shape a high-performing service where teamwork, compassion and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything we do.

Why you should join our Team

The Ophthalmology Service is a friendly, forward-thinking team united by a genuine commitment to improving the lives of the patients we serve. As the largest provider of specialist Ophthalmology services in Yorkshire, we are a department that takes real pride in the standard of care we deliver - and that same dedication extends to how we look after our own people.

You'll be joining a supportive, close-knit team where colleagues go out of their way to help one another, and where your contribution is recognised and valued. Working within the Head & Neck CSU at St James's University Hospital, you'll be part of one of the most respected and ambitious Ophthalmology departments in the North of England. We serve a diverse and wide-reaching patient community spanning Leeds, Yorkshire, and beyond - meaning the work you do every day has a real and meaningful impact. We are committed to professional development, fostering a culture where people are encouraged to grow, take ownership, and build fulfilling careers.

If you're looking for a role where you can lead with purpose, work alongside passionate professionals, and make a genuine difference to patients and colleagues alike - this is the team for you.

What you will bring to the role

We are looking for a motivated and resilient individual who brings a high level of personal commitment, sound logical reasoning, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You'll be someone who thrives under pressure, is equally comfortable working independently or as part of a team, and who takes genuine pride in finding the right solution for patients and colleagues alike.

The ability to prioritise effectively, work with autonomy, and adapt to the fast-paced demands of a busy outpatient environment will be key to your success in this role. As the first point of management for the Administrative and Clerical team, you'll provide hands-on supervision and meaningful support to the APSCs across the outpatient service. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential - as is a heartfelt commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
