Full Job Description
The post holder will work as part of a team and undertake a full range of duties associated with the co-ordination and administration of the Mental Health Act, 1983 across the University Health Board. The role of the Assistant Mental Health Act Administrator is to provide comprehensive support to the Mental Health Act Administrators in the maintenance of the departments' manual and computerised patient legal files. By the nature of the duties, the post holder will be required to maintain strict confidentiality and be expected to deal with issues of a sensitive nature with both internal and external stakeholders with courteous, empathy and discretion at all times, to ensure a high quality, efficient and effective service is provided. The post holder will be required to develop a sound operational knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983, to include Mental Health Law, Mental Capacity Act and subsequent legislation., o To organise and coordinate Hospital Managers Hearings.o To liaise with all parties involved both internal and external to the Health Board.o To request reports and provide the relevant information to the Associate Hospital Managers panel.o To process requests from detained patients.o On behalf of the Hospital Managers, to ensure that qualifying detained patients are referred to the Mental Health Review Tribunal.o Is responsible for booking appropriate venues for Tribunals.o To collate and submit reports to the Mental Health Review Tribunal for Wales office.o To ensure that all detained patients under the Mental Health Act 1983 are aware of their rights under the legislation.o To assist with the appropriate scrutiny of statutory documentation to ensure compliance with the MHA 1983 and to monitor that any errors are amended within the statutory requirements.o To assist with Mental Health Act queries from patients, nearest relatives, advocates, solicitors, Responsible Clinicians and ward staff in a courteous and helpful manner.o To understand a range of work procedures and possess an advanced working knowledge in the use of various software programmes, including Microsoft Office, spreadsheets and bespoke NHS database systems.o To deal with correspondence, opening, sorting and distributing mail.o To process section 17 leave forms .
