Head of Facilities and Health and Safety Lead

£30,000 per year

We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic individual with a strong willingness to make a real impact on the safety and functionality of our school. Experience in site management and/or health & safety is essential, together with strong organisational skills, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to contributing to the safe and efficient operation of our school. The successful candidate will also have the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team. 

The successful candidate will have

  • H&S knowledge, ideally in a school environment
  • The ability to juggle a busy workload 
  • The skills to lead and motivate others in the team 
  • A relevant IOSH qualification, or be prepared to obtain one
  • Evidence of their commitment to their professional development
  • Evidence of ICT confidence and competence
  • Be self-motivated, organised and hard working

Hours of work: To ensure the school site is secure after hours, by closing the site at the end of the day / at weekends, the following hours are necessary:  

Monday to Friday, year round, 11.30am until 8.30pm with an hours break (some flexibility in hours may be possible during school holidays).

Weekends: as needed by the school for weekend community users (TOIL for these hours)

Living locally to SW14 advantageous due to the nature of the role.

  • 28 days statutory holiday per year. 

Facilities and site management: 

This is not a desk job! You will oversee the day to day management of the school's site. Respond to maintenance and site issues. Ensure statutory maintenance, servicing and compliance checks are completed and documented. Complete risk assessments, staff the front desk each day from 5.30-7.30pm ensuring safeguarding protocols are followed until all pupils are off site, and using this time to complete desk based tasks.

H&S: 

You will Manage all premises-related contractors and contracts and play a key role in the day-to-day implementation of the School’s Health & Safety Policy. Carrying out health and safety checks and tasks and recording progress using online systems. Have responsibility for delivering the highest quality services, ensuring that the school complies with all its statutory and regulatory duties. Key responsibilities include following school policies, preparing risk assessments, preparing for school inspections by the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate, and Health and Safety auditors. Experience of these areas is highly desirable. Relevant professional qualifications would be advantageous however, they are not essential, although a willingness to undertake additional training is a requirement.

Lettings: 

Assist community users with lettings, ensuring that lettings at the school operate effectively and efficiently while ensuring the security of the premises.

Cleaning Contractor Supervisor: 

Supervising cleaning contractors in delivering day to day aspects relating to the management and maintenance of the cleaning service on site.
