Full Job Description
As Group Indirect Tax Manager, you will autonomously manage all areas of indirect tax compliance for Pennon group companies and the relationship with HMRC, customers, vendors and internal audit and other stakeholders for indirect tax compliance. Including management of VAT Groups, property options to tax, partial exemption and MTD data accuracy. You will have opportunity to implement and maintain indirect tax controls, processes and procedures to achieve Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) compliance and consistent with a low BRR+ risk rating. To minimise errors and maximise VAT recovery, through review of VAT data and proactive engagement with transactional services, treasury, developer services and other teams. \n What you'll be doing
- Timely preparation, review and submission of group VAT returns, with average monthly VAT repayments of c£15m
- Management of MTD data interfaces and data integrity, working in conjunction with the IT teams
- Ensuring compliance through a strong controls' environment including VAT Control Account reconciliation, ledger reconciliation and review of MTD data
- Consolidation, adjustment and submission of VAT returns using OneSource Indirect Tax Compliance software
- Identifying changes in VAT regulations affecting the group, including participation in the Water UK Indirect Tax group
- Regular communication, education and training of internal transactional, developer services, properties and legal teams
- Management of an apprentice tax accountant (AAT qualified)
- Submission of IPT returns
- Hydrocarbon Oils Duty Refund (HODR) claims
- Support of water, waste and renewable power businesses with all indirect tax matters
- Support of properties and legal teams with property letting and sale transactions, option to tax policy and partial exemption matters
- Implementation and documentation of indirect tax policies, procedures and controls and engagement with internal audit.
VAT and other indirect tax technical knowledge with the ability to research new area - The ability to work across multiple ERP systems and consolidate data
- Management, training and mentoring of one report and other junior staff
- CTA qualified
- Ideally ACA/ACCA qualified
- Strong data analysis and interpretation, using Excel, Power BI and other applications
- Exercising an eye for detail with respect to data review and the resolution of data problems
- Communicating and the ability to achieve changes to improve compliance and controls
