Full Job Description

We are looking for a motivated and detail-orientated finance professional to work as an Assistant Management Accountant within the Financial Reporting Team at the University of Bristol. You will join a small team responsible for the University's financial statements and regulatory returns. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a role that involves university wide finances. The role provides accounting, financial management and financial reporting services for the Corporate division, which is the central finance division within the university. You will assist the Group Management Accountant in maintaining updated forecasts and accurate accounting treatment for the division. As Assistant Management Accountant, you will also assist in preparing notes to the financial statements and responding to audit queries in the University's statutory audit.What will you be doing?

  • To be the first point of contact for day to day financial management queries and activities for the Corporate Division.
  • To monitor and forecast expenditure, including regular review and analysis of accounts to ensure that appropriate accruals and prepayments are recognised in the correct accounting period.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records for funding body grant income, liaising with the funding bodies if required.
  • Prepare notes to the accounts for the University's financial statements.
  • Responding to audit queries in the University's statutory audit.

    You have an aptitude for working in a financial environment, with great Excel skills.
  • You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and you can use these to analyse data to make decisions on the correct accounting treatment.
  • Customer service and effective communication is important to how you work, meaning you can build up good working relationships and present financial information to a range of contacts.
  • You are highly organised and able to work to deadlines while maintaining excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • You may be working towards an Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) or accounting qualification.
