Every year our systems support up to 3 million visa applications, checks on 100 million border crossings, up to 8 million passport applications and deliver 140 million police checks on people, vehicles and property. You'll collect, organise and analyse data to provide insights across a number of business areas. You'll develop skills in data manipulation, analysis and visualisation, building expertise in communicating their insights clearly to technical and non-technical audiences. Working with teams such as Data Engineers and Data Scientists, you'll contribute to the Data Analysis community and build expertise in using analytical tools and techniques. You'll get to work with some of the largest and most varied datasets around, and benefit from a wealth of continuous professional development resources and career opportunities. You'll play a key role in delivering joined-up, intelligent services that unlock the value from data and deliver better outcomes for the UK., The Home Office is an exciting and rewarding department to work for, if you are successful in securing a place on the Data Analyst Level 4 Apprenticeship you will: + Identify, collect and migrate data to / from a range of internal and external systems. + Perform database queries across multiple tables to extract data for analysis using a range of analytical techniques such as data mining, time series forecasting and modelling techniques to identify and predict trends and patterns in data. + Assist with data quality, checking and cleansing. summarising, presenting and making recommendations from the results of data analysis. + Clearly defining stakeholder requirements for data analysis. + Translate technical concepts into non-technical language and communicating them to internal and external stakeholders. + Work under direction to use the most appropriate medium for visualising data, presenting, communicating and disseminating analysis and recommendations appropriately. + Identify problems in databases, data processes, data products and services, and contributing to the implementation of remedies and preventative measures. + Checking that data and analysis looks right, and is fit for purpose. Working pattern Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis. Training We offer a tailored training package throughout the scheme, and you will be supported in your personal development. Apprenticeship This position includes completing a Data Analyst Level 4 Apprenticeship, which takes around 18 months. To apply, you must: + Be 16 or older (no upper age limit) + Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years before starting + Not be in another apprenticeship or paid education + Work at least 30 hours per week. + Not already hold a similar qualification at Level 3 or higher. Travel The roles will be located within Croydon with occasional travel to our Central London or regional hubs, this will be subject to the apprenticeship., We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process: + Delivering at Pace + Communicating and Influencing + Making Effective Decisions + Leadership, We will endeavour to conduct the selection process in line with the dates indicated below, but cannot guarantee that these will not, where necessary, be revised. After submission of this first stage, you will be invited to complete the following Civil Service Numerical, Verbal and Judgement tests. 1. Online Test - by 22nd July 2025 If you successfully pass the Civil Service Numerical, Verbal and Judgement tests, you will be invited to complete the full application form. Please complete the online tests as soon as possible (within 24-48 hours is recommended). If you fail to complete the online tests or full application before the deadline, your application will be withdrawn. Guidance for the Civil Service tests will be available when you are invited to take the tests. The online tests are accessed via the Civil Service Jobs website. You cannot complete the tests on a mobile phone or tablet. Following successful completion of your tests, you will then be asked to complete the full application form. 2. Application - by 22nd July 2025 As part of the application process, you will be asked to complete: + CV + Personal Statement (maximum 500 words). Your CV should consist of your career history, qualifications and skills/experience, including any key achievements in each role. Your CV will be scored against the experience required for the role as noted within the essential criteria. The Personal Statement should be aligned to and demonstrate how you meet the skills and experience set out in the essential criteria, detailed in the job description. Sift - from 25th July 2025 The sift will be held on the CV and Personal Statement. Should a high volume of applications be received, an initial sift will be conducted on the Personal Statement. Candidates who pass the initial sift will then be progressed to a full sift that will consist of the Personal Statement and CV. 4. Interview - week commencing 1st September 2025 If you are successful at sift stage, you will be invited to an interview that will be Behaviours (as listed in the job advert) and Strength based questions. You will have a demonstrable passion for the following skills or some experience in: + Analytical and problem-solving skills, including the need for careful analysis of data to produce clear findings. + Communication skills, such as the ability to understand what communication is required for internal and external stakeholders. + Data modelling, data cleansing and data enrichment skills, including knowledge of different data models and tools and understanding when they could be used. + Data visualisation, using the most appropriate medium to tell an actionable story relevant for the fully defined goals. + Logical and creative thinking skills. + Proven IT, programming and mathematical skills, and an appreciation of how they are applied in the work environment. + Statistical methods and data analysis skills, and understanding the theoretical basis for applied practices. + Experience with using Excel (in particular pivot tables and XLookup) and Microsoft products (or similar).   • 3 A-Levels grade C or above one of which must be in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) subject OR equivalent qualifications such as BTECs, CTEC, T-Levels with a STEM subject being compulsory.
  • GCSE Maths and English grade C or above (Level 4 in the new grading system).
  • To be eligible for an apprenticeship, applicants must not already hold a qualification at the same or a higher level in a similar subject area to the one they are applying for. If you do not meet the academic requirements and are unable to provide evidence of your qualifications - your application will not be progressed to the next stage.
