Job Description

JOB TITLE: Essentials Hub Assistants
SALARY: £16.59 per hour inclusive of holiday pay
LOCATION: LSE Students' Union, Central London Office
WORKING HOURS: 8 hours per week during term time
CONTRACT TYPE: Zero hours

Following a successful funding bid, we are pleased to announce the opening of the LSESU Essentials Hub throughout the 2026-27 academic year. The Essentials Hub is a student-run space at LSESU, created in response to our cost-of-living survey findings, that gives students easy access to affordable food and everyday essentials so that money worries don't get in the way of their studies. We are recruiting four Essentials Hubs Assistants within our Student Voice team to support this project and operate the hub, ensuring it runs smoothly and caters to the needs of our student community.

Who are we?

LSESU is a vibrant, student-led organisation committed to helping LSE students make the most of the life-changing experiences open to them during their time at university. Founded in 1897, LSE Students' Union is one of the oldest Students' Unions in the UK. We provide support, representation, and opportunities to help students thrive during their time at university. Everything we do is shaped by our members and guided by our values to be bold and inclusive, working collaboratively to create a welcoming community built on integrity and respect.

Who are we looking for?

Our Essentials Hub Assistants will be friendly, approachable and keen to help fellow students get what they need. Experience in a customer service or student-facing role is helpful, as is a clear, relaxed way of explaining things. Any familiarity with student support or community projects is a bonus.

You'll be organised and able to keep a few things going at once during busy periods, while treating students' information with care and discretion. You'll work closely with colleagues across the Union to make sure students find the right help.

Why apply?

This is a chance to help shape how LSESU supports students day to day and through the Cost-of-Living Crisis. As our Essentials Hub Assistant, you'll be the friendly face that makes sure students get the help they need, when they need it. If you want a hands-on role in a busy, student-led environment, we'd love to hear from you. In return, we offer:

Additional closure periods at Christmas and Easter
Free LSE Students' Union gym membership
Opportunities for professional development and growth.
Access to TOTUM (NUS) card, which provides a wide range of discounts
Flexibility for study-life balance

How to apply

We want to ensure that all systems, policies and processes are free from bias or discrimination and are fair and accessible. Therefore, we ask that all candidates complete our application process by uploading the following 2 documents:

Supporting Statement - A one-page statement explaining your suitability for the role. This will be used to determine if you are shortlisted for an interview. Please do not include any personal information (e.g., name or date of birth). Use the attached job description and person specification to help with this.
Equal Opportunities Monitoring and Contact Form - This includes personal information so we can contact you if you are shortlisted for an interview. It also allows us to gather and analyse demographic information about our applicants. This form will only be seen by HR and will not impact shortlisting.
