Full Job Description

To transport conscious & unconscious patients between all acute care areas, including radiology, wards and operating theatres ensuring their safety and dignity at all times. To participate as a member of the operating theatre team, assisting in providing a safe and clean environment to receive patients during the peri-operative episode. To provide high quality patient care under the guidance and supervision of the senior nurse/operating department practitioner. Be responsible for the storage of medical gas cylinders and other key equipment, having first undertaken the appropriate training. To maintain all theatre areas to a high level of hygiene following infection control guidelines. Whilst you are assigned to a specific site, there may be the requirement for cross-site cover during periods of absence for safe staffing., Please read the attached Job description & Person Specification for more details

1. To assist with the transfer of patients from the acute care area to the anaesthetic room/theatres/recovery room, including x-ray department on all hospital sites according to local policy

2. To assist with the moving and positioning of both conscious and unconscious patients in preparation for surgery and/or treatment, ensuring that any intravenous infusions, drains or catheters are appropriately positioned.

3. Clean and maintain specialised equipment, reporting any faults to the appropriate personnel.

4. To prepare and physically position theatre equipment, furniture and operating lights in readiness for surgery and/or treatment of patients.

5. To demonstrate skills of time management and prioritisation of workload with support from a registered practitioner.

6. Develop and utilise good communication skills. Relay messages to other members of the multi disciplinary team promptly and accurately.

7. Assist the trained staff in the delivery of high quality care to patients throughout their peri-operative experience, ensuring at all times that utmost regard is given to patient dignity, safety, values, individuality, religion and confidentiality. To be aware of and comply with the Data Protection Act 1998.
