About The Role

Are you a budding ecologist ready to build a long-term career in consultancy? Do you want a role that blends hands-on fieldwork with analytical, desk-based science? Are you looking for structured development, protected species training, and the chance to learn from an experienced team?

Aspect Ecology (part of the APEM Group) is looking for an Assistant Ecologist to join our growing team based in Crawley. This is an excellent early-career opportunity for someone who wants to grow into a well-rounded consultant while gaining licences and specialist experience in species such as great crested newts, bats and dormice.

This is a genuinely mixed role. You'll spend around three days a week in the field during peak survey season, often involving early starts, late finishes and occasional nights away.

You'll join a friendly, knowledgeable team delivering ecological surveys and assessments across the South East of England and beyond. With strong support, clear development pathways and exposure to a wide range of project types, this is a great role for someone who's ambitious, curious, and ready to start carving out their ecological career.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

A relevant degree and/or postgraduate qualification, with a strong academic record.
A sound background in or enthusiasm for natural history and basic familiarity with UK flora and fauna.
A broad understanding of UK wildlife legislation.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, with effective teamwork and excellent communication skills.
Ability to travel across the UK, with some requirement for over-night stays.
A full UK driving licence.

You will be offered the chance to work on a variety of projects, many of our employees have worked on projects that have been of personal interest to them. We match this with a commitment to continuous development and learning to support your career. We also offer benefits to look after you, from private medical insurance for all employees, access to mental health first aiders and comprehensive income protection if you cannot work. We also offer superb flexible working options, balancing work with your life.
