Summary

What skills and experience we're looking for

Haybrook College Alternative Provision Academy is seeking to recruit an energetic and inspiring PE / Sport Teacher for our special school in Slough. Our aim is to help our pupils to make positive behaviour choices and become independent learners with positive futures.

Millside School is a small special school for young people with a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. Working in an AP or specialist setting takes a special kind of person and is different from a mainstream school. With an average of 8 pupils in a class and a shorter, but much more intense teaching day, it gives you the time and ability to get to know the pupils in-depth and support their needs to secure the best possible personal and educational outcomes. The successful candidate will find this post challenging, exciting, varied, and fulfilling. You will be working with a range of dedicated staff who want to achieve the best outcomes for our cohort of young people.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced and enthusiastic PE teacher with a passion for the subject and promote the love of learning within the PE curriculum. You will also have a passion for SEND and for meeting the individual needs of pupils. You will also have a passion for supporting pupils with SEND and for meeting their individual needs. As a teacher of PE, you will have knowledge of the relevant curriculum for KS3 and KS4, experience of teaching a variety of sports and activities to pupils with a range of vulnerabilities, challenging behaviour or SEND, and above all, have the desire and drive to see the most vulnerable young people in society succeed.

You will be an energetic, highly resilient and adaptable individual with excellent creativity and flexibility of thinking to ensure challenges are met and problems are solved. The ability to be flexible and work alongside a team are essential. A high level of understanding of SEMH, SEND, safeguarding, equality and fairness are as important as a good sense of humour, openness and compassion; all of which will be needed in this role to support our young people through these challenging times. The ability to communicate effectively with parents and outside agencies is essential.

This post is most suitable for those with either a mainstream, AP, or special school background, with a strong understanding of SEND and how to meet pupils needs. However, we will consider an ECT or experienced unqualified teacher who demonstrates experience and passion for working with pupils with SEND.

What the school offers its staff

Working with young people with a range of SEND needs is not for everyone. It takes a special kind of person to give kindness and compassion to a complex and often challenging cohort of young people. We work hard to support our staff so they can do the best possible job and find that work life balance everyone deserves. We offer:

  • Excellent professional support from a welcoming wider team across the college
  • Regular line management support from a member of the senior leadership
  • Additional support from an experienced central team
  • Free access to Educational Support Partnership
  • Highly valuable Continued Professional Development delivered by experts
  • A thorough induction package
  • Competitive salary
  • Access to Teachers Pension Scheme
  • Free flu vaccinations
  • Access to salary sacrifice schemes for cycles, ICT/Electronics and Ikea
  • Wellbeing days

Further details about the role

  • Working with the relevant Head of Centre and teaching colleagues, you will provide teaching and learning for your subject, which will inspire and motivate pupils, staff, and all other members of the College community.
  • You will deliver your subject(s) to ensure that all pupils make the best possible progress academically and towards becoming independent learners.
  • You will carry out the duties of this post in line with the remit outlined in the current School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document including the conditions of employment for teachers and the College policies.
