Woodland Workshop Facilitator

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students; to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role. Are you passionate about nature, sustainability and helping others get involved in environmental initiatives? We are looking for a student to support the delivery of our popular Orchard and Woodland Workshops at Manchester Met's Birley Campus. Working alongside our community partner, Hulme Community Garden Centre, you will help facilitate practical outdoor workshops that care for and enhance our on-campus orchard and woodland areas. The orchard is home to 22 varieties of fruit tree, while the neighbouring woodland provides an important green space that supports biodiversity and wellbeing. Throughout the year, there will be ten workshops, held on Wednesday afternoons from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. You will work with Kath from Hulme Community Garden Centre to help deliver engaging, enjoyable and successful sessions for students and staff., As an Orchard and Woodland Workshop Facilitator you will play an important role in creating a welcoming and inclusive experience for workshop participants. Your responsibilities will include:

• Greeting attendees and registering attendance at each workshop
• Directing participants to the orchard or woodland activity areas
• Supporting Kath, the workshop lead from Hulme Community Garden Centre, to deliver practical outdoor sessions
• Encouraging and assisting participants throughout activities
• Responding to basic questions about sustainability at Manchester Met and signposting attendees to relevant resources and services
• Helping to create a positive, engaging and safe environment for all participants
• Capture photographs and short videos during the workshops
• Being available to work on Wednesday afternoons throughout the workshop programme
• Working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions

Induction and training Before facilitating the first workshop of the 2026/27 academic year on 28 October, you will be expected to attend an on-site induction session with the Sustainability Manager, ideally on 21 October at 12pm, Birley campus.Person Specification This role is only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements - Desirable:
• First and second-year students are encouraged to apply, as we hope to recruit a student who can continue facilitating the workshops over multiple years of study at Manchester Met.
Essential:
• Enthusiastic about sustainability, nature, environmental projects and community engagement.
• Confident communicating with a wide range of people and helping to create a welcoming and inclusive environment.
• Reliable, organised and able to take responsibility for supporting workshop activities and attendee registration.
• Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and participating in practical hands-on activities.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team, with availability to attend Wednesday afternoon workshops throughout the programme.
