Full Job Description

Are you an experienced welder looking to pass on your trade to the next generation? Or an established engineering educator looking for a flexible part-time role? We are seeking a passionate and skilled Welding Assessor/Lecturer to join our dynamic Engineering Department on a 0.5 fractional contract. In this role, you will play a vital part in shaping the future of the engineering sector, teaching and assessing groups of post-16 learners including 16-18 study programme students, adult learners, and engineering apprentices. Your role will include working as workplace assessor for an assigned caseload of welding apprentices and college-based delivery of high-quality practical and theoretical training across Levels 1 and 2 Welding, ensuring learners develop the precise manual skills and safety awareness required by modern industry. Our workshops are equipped for multi-process training and you will be expected to instruct learners in

Must-Have:

  • Strong, demonstrable background in industrial welding and fabrication with high proficiency in MIG/MAG, TIG, and MMA processes
  • Relevant industry qualification in Welding or Fabrication (e.g. BS 4872, ISO 9606, City & Guilds, EAL, NVQ, or equivalent)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage, motivate, and manage a workshop environment safely
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations relevant to engineering environments (COSHH, PUWER, HASAWA)
  • Experience of teaching, training, or mentoring others in a welding or engineering context
  • Ability to track learner progress and prepare students for practical assessments and industry-recognised qualifications
  • Nice-to-Have:
  • A1/TAQA Assessor Award, CSWIP 3.1, or a recognised teaching qualification (DTLLS, PGCE, Cert Ed, AET/CET) - if you don't hold these, a commitment to achieving them with college support is essential
  • Experience working with 16-18-year-olds, adult learners, and/or engineering apprentices
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship delivery, off-the-job training requirements, and EPA processes
  • Previous experience in an FE or training provider setting
