Job Summary

At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components, and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft.


The successful Welder will be expected to work with a variety of industry equipment in carrying out various fabrication duties. We're looking for someone that has knowledge of percussion riveting, drill/ream/countersink in panels, and other skills as expected with the role. This is a full-time, permanent position on a shift pattern (which includes 25% shift premium):



  • Week 1: Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, Friday

  • Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday


There is opportunity to work night shifts once fully trained, which incurs an additional 33% shift premium.


How You'll Contribute



  • Working with various materials (titanium, aluminium, stainless steel) in the manufacture of aircraft parts, across a variety of Airbus family of aircraft

  • Ensuring parts are produced on a right-first-time basis

  • Responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system

  • Responsible for highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader

  • Adhering to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures

  • Accountable for Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the HASAWA 1974

  • To hold first-party inspection approval (M02 status is subject to obtaining A stamp approval)

  • Responsible for general housekeeping within the area

  • Compliant with all risk assessments and company Environment, Health & Safety Procedures relevant to all work activities

Essential:



  • A recognised and relevant apprenticeship and relevant NVQ level 3 (or equivalent)

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Ability to work to standard operating procedures

  • Must be able to work in small teams with Team Leaders

  • Self-motivated team player with good communication skills


Desirable:



  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and techniques to support GKNAF continuous improvement initiatives

  • Ability to operate CNC Machinery (Unison Pipe Bending machines, Power Presses, CNC Drilling & routing)

  • Experience of swaging pipework
