Full Job Description

Our main office, based in the Eastgate Centre on Eastgate Street in the heart of the city, is an accessible, modern and light space designed for collaborative working and finding new ways to work. It's all open plan, with a living green wall and other plants without set desks, so you can sit next to someone new every day. We're always looking to improve how we work and we offer flexible and agile working to give our people a great work life balance. Are you passionate about the environment, keen to provide excellent customer service to the residents of Gloucester, have the ability to manage a busy workload and have excellent communication skills? We are looking for a person to join our Waste, Recycling and Streetscene team in a job share post working 18.5 hours a week. Primarily you will be responsible for encouraging residents to reduce waste and increase the amount they recycle. You will also be part of a team who ensures that services are operated effectively and efficiently. These core services are important to the residents of Gloucester and we are looking for someone with a "can do" attitude to ensure the continuous improvement of our services. About the Job This role is one of a number of posts in our Waste Recycling and Streetscene team, based at our office in Eastern Avenue. The team is responsible for core environmental services such as waste, recycling, street cleaning, grounds maintenance and the public open spaces in our countryside sites. Although you will primarily deal with waste, recycling and street cleaning services, there will occasionally be opportunities to be involved in other projects relating to parks and open spaces. We offer flexible working with a hybrid working system which allows you to work at home and in the office at Eastern Avenue. We have an office day each week where all of the team are in the office and we all have our own desk. What we need you to do

  • Provide project management support to the service across large scale projects
  • Respond effectively to requests for service and complaints
  • Develop relationships with community groups, Members, partners and a range of stakeholders
  • Draft communications relating to projects for the Council's website and social media pages
  • Effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders both face to face and in writing
  • Manage a busy workload
  • Have a "can do" attitude, with the ability to find solutions to problems
  • Maintain and develop constructive relationships as part of a collaborative working environment.
  • Consider the financial implications of any activities affecting the use of council funds, seeking best value for money and identifying or recommending more cost-effective options.

It is a legal requirement, under the Immigration Act 2016, that anyone appointed to a 'customer facing role' must be able to demonstrate an ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in fluent English.

Generous annual leave entitlement, 25 days annual leave rising to 30 days after 5 years of continuous service
  • An option to purchase 10 days of additional leave per year (pro rata for part-time staff)
  • 2 days paid leave every year to participate in local volunteering activities
  • Excellent Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) & Life Cover of 3 times your salary
  • Regular training, career development and qualification opportunities
  • Supportive and positive working environment with regular, robust supervision
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), that provides free, confidential counselling and advice for employees, available 24 hours a day, online and by telephone, and in an in-house Occupational Health service
  • Enhanced family friendly leave and pay
  • Car salary sacrifice scheme (T & C apply)
  • Employee discount scheme
  • Discounted tickets for local events and reduced rate use of GL1 facilities
