We're looking for a Waste Champion who will deliver excellent service standards and help drive recycling and waste targets while meeting SLA agreements and adhering to cleaning and waste schedules. Contract: Permanent Type: Full time Hours: 40 Pay: £13.82 Location: Westquay Shopping Centre, Southampton Job Overview The Waste Champion plays a key role in supporting Westquay's sustainability and operational objectives by managing waste and recycling practices across both public and back-of-house areas. The role focuses on retailer engagement, improving recycling performance, and maintaining safe, compliant service yard operations within a busy retail environment. The role will be provided with full training and be expected to help us achieve our agreed waste targets. Main Duties

• To ensure that all service yards and waste handling areas are always maintained to the highest standards.
• Maintain a strong presence in service yards and delivery corridors, ensuring waste areas remain clean, safe, and organised.
• Work alongside security and cleaning teams to manage congestion, waste build-up, and access issues.
• Support safe operations around waste equipment, reporting defects or misuse.
• Assist in reducing poor waste management in back-of-house areas
• Ensure waste is correctly segregated in line with site procedures and environmental legislation
• Actively support the use and management of site assets, including compactors, balers, food waste, and recycling areas
• Work collaboratively within a small on-site team, supporting each other to deliver operational and sustainability goals.
• Act as the point of contact for retailers in relation to waste and recycling
• To understand your areas of responsibility and the equipment and chemicals used whilst following Health and Safety requirements.
• You will be required to successfully complete all training required to deliver the Waste champion role.
• Demonstrate initiative and ability to drive innovation.
• You will be required to work within a team and be able to work under your own initiative.
• You will need to build positive and productive working relationships with all customers, delivering excellent customer service and seeking ways to continuously improve and exceed expectations.
Requirements To be successful in this role you will need have the ability to communicate and read basic English. Previous waste experience is essential, and you must have a flexible approach to the role. You will need to be open, honest, self-driven and determined. You'll need to be reliable and hardworking with a professional attitude.
