What you'll be doing To provide the safe and efficient transfer of patients and goods around the Hospital as required and to work as part of the Hospital Team to provide a safe and caring environment in line with patients needs

  • To accompany patients to and from the theatre and recovery, radiology department and down to transport on discharge.
  • The post holder will be in constant contact with patients, relatives, staff and visitors; many of whom will be worried and apprehensive. A porter must be able to communicate in a clear and precise manner, as the transfer of accurate information is essential to patient safety and the smooth running of the department.
  • The Ward Porter will also be actively involved with the following: Transfer of Goods
  • To accept deliveries, ensure boxes are stored appropriately and rubbish removed.
  • Medical Gas Management
  • Assist with the maintenance and use of CD size Oxygen cylinders on the ward; exchanging empty cylinders when full, checking for leaks and rectifying problems.
  • Follow Health and Safety guidelines, ensuring that cylinders are transported safely and stored securely in the designated bed holder, wheelchair holder or trolley.
  • What we'll look for in you

  • Good standard of basic education., 1 year in a similar position/ caring background.
  • Moving and handling of patients
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements with regard to storage of oxygen etc.
  • Skills and Knowledge:
  • Good communication skills verbal/written
  • Ability to work with the wider caring team.
  • Demonstrates common sense
  • Sensitivity and empathy with people
  • Ability to appreciate the needs of others
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to prioritise workload
