Full Job Description
The Ward Clerk role is essential in supporting the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of the ward. The post holder provides administrative support to the clinical team, manages patient information systems, coordinates communication with departments and relatives, and ensures accurate documentation and data management. Full-Time and Part-Time Hours Considered, Weekdays and Weekends.Main duties of the job § To demonstrate excellent communication skills when dealing with patients, relatives and members of the multidisciplinary team utilising sensitivity, empathy and ability to manage conflict. Actively contribute to effective teamwork. § Actively contribute to effective teamwork. § Greet all new patients, relatives and visitors to the Specialist Surgery Wards and direct them to the appropriate room/bay. § Answer the telephone courteously and direct enquiries as appropriate. § Work within the guidelines of confidentiality and data protection policies. § Liaise with other departments within the hospital to book any requested investigations and/or transportation from hospital or between departments. § Book patients follow-up appointments and liaise with administrative staff within the Specialist Surgery Unit when this is not possible or in cases of patients requiring urgent review. Maintain a record of all appointments made. § Investigate the non-attendance of patients booked for admission. Liaise with Medical and Nursing teams and the Theatre Booking Service (TBS) with regards to organising last minute patients' admissions. § Accept responsibility for individual actions § Demonstrate an understanding of role boundaries., To demonstrate excellent communication skills when dealing with patients, relatives and members of the multidisciplinary team utilising sensitivity, empathy and ability to manage conflict. Liaise with Medical and Nursing teams and the Theatre Booking Service (TBS) with regards to organising last minute patients' admissions. § Accept responsibility for individual actions, The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
