  • Waking Night Residential Childcare Support Worker

  • Company: Area Camden

  • Location: Soham, Cambridgeshire

  • Salary: Up to £14.60 per hour (Qualified Support Worker salary is based on the proven existing completion of a Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare or equivalent)

  • Specific Hours: 20:00pm- 8:00am (12 hour shifts)

We're now looking for a Casual Waking Night Support Worker to support the physical, emotional, and social development of the children and young people in our homes.


Duties and Responsibilities



  • Stay awake and alert for the full night shift

  • Ensure children's safety and wellbeing throughout the night

  • Provide empathy, reassurance, and support when needed

  • Support personalised bedtime routines and occasional activities

  • Keep accurate computer-based records

  • Follow the Philomena protocol for missing children

  • Communicate with out-of-hours services and handle calls professionally

  • Follow all Area Camden policies and act as a positive role model

  • Contribute to the home's values and adapt to children's changing needs


Essential skills required



  • Strong teamwork, energy, and enthusiasm

  • Knowledge of safeguarding children

  • Able to follow tasks, record handovers, and maintain policies

  • Good written and verbal communication

  • Able to listen, engage, and act appropriately with children

  • Organised, with good planning skills

  • Willing to work toward a Level 3 Residential Childcare qualification (if not already held)
