Full Job Description

We are looking for a Junior VT Guarantee, who will work primarily on Outside Broadcast locations and at our Reading OB base with occasional work at other Timeline premises as necessary to cover programme and maintenance needs. The applicant is expected to have experience maintaining, deploying, and operating broadcast and network equipment and systems typically deployed in OB or studio environments. They should be able to demonstrate a solid foundation of technical knowledge along with a willingness to develop further.   • Maintain, deploy, and operate VT systems across Timeline's fleet of scanners, studios, fly-aways, and remote productions.
  • Maintain and operate equipment in OB trucks and the warehouse, including opening, closing, and powering trucks, installing, and removing kit, and checking that trucks have the VT equipment required for production needs.
  • Ensure that technical faults are identified and logged, faulty equipment is taken out of service, and its repair is actioned.
  • Learn to interpret customer requirements, test VT solutions, and provide robust solutions which may include back-up systems.
  • Assist in the preparation and loading of jobs.
  • You will learn through working alongside other members of the VT Department as well as colleagues in other departs (e.g. Sound, Vision) on OBs and in the warehouse. You will develop through shadowing, gradually increasing responsibility, and exposure to a wide range of equipment and productions.
  • The job can involve a great deal of travelling, driving and frequent periods away from home, both in the UK and abroad.
  • The role is shift based and can involve unsociable hours and weekend work as dictated by the production schedule. A working shift will be 12 hours on average; this is reflected in the salary offered for this role.
  • The contract will be based on 226 working days per year, inclusive of annual leave and Bank Holidays. Shifts can be scheduled on any day Monday-Sunday including early/late shifts and public holidays.
  • A full, clean UK driving licence and valid passport are essential.

    Some broadcast engineering experience.
  • Good fundamental knowledge of IT and TCP/IP networking infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of UHD and HD baseband vision systems, coupled with an interest and desire to learn about broadcast technologies including IP distribution formats such as SMPTE 2110 and 2022-6.
  • Ability to make critical assessment of television pictures and sound.
  • Effective communication, with a flexible approach to problem solving and openness to new challenges and alternative solutions.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work both alone and as part of a team, and to remain calm under pressure.
  • Good knowledge of the principles of health & safety at work as applied in the TV industry.
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to react tactfully and sympathetically to requests from colleagues, clients, and other staff.
  • An ability to interact with our clients in a calm and balanced manner to nurture trust and ensure an ongoing business relationship.
  • Desirable:
  • Installation, configuration and operation of EVS XT servers and LSM Remotes.
  • Knowledge of EVS XFile, XSquare, XTAccess servers and IPDirector workstations.
  • Configuration of network switches.
  • Installation and operation of Avid and Premiere edit workstations.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of file-based editing workflows and various file transcoding, processing and delivery systems.
  • Media management in small to large scale environments.
  • Previous experience in an operational role in TV Outside Broadcasting
