Full Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and empathetic Volunteering Officer to join our team. This role will develop, coordinate and support St Luke's volunteer programme across Basildon and Thurrock, ensuring volunteers are recruited, trained and supported to enhance the care and services we provide. The successful candidate will work closely with clinical and non-clinical teams to embed volunteering opportunities that reflect the Hospice's values and meet the needs of patients, families and the local community., Coordinate recruitment, induction, and placement of new volunteers in a wide variety of roles within the Hospice and retail stores.
Support existing volunteers, conducting regular check-ins and offering guidance, recognition, and development opportunities.
Work with teams to identify volunteering needs and ensure meaningful volunteer opportunities are available.
Maintain accurate volunteer records, manage rotas, and track volunteer hours using our database in line with GDPR.
Deliver training and induction sessions; develop resources for volunteers to ensure a consistent experience.
Promote volunteering opportunities through outreach activity, events, partnerships, and online platforms to attract diverse applicants.
Support safe, inclusive volunteer engagement, upholding safeguarding, health and safety, and equity, diversity and inclusion standards.
Champion the value of volunteering internally and externally, fostering a culture of respect and appreciation., Please note that St Luke's Hospice is unable to sponsor work permits or visas. All applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Our care considers people's medical, spiritual and emotional needs, including support for loved ones and carers. Anyone living in Basildon and Thurrock can call on us 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Working alongside other healthcare providers, our specialist services are available at the hospice, out in the community or in a person's place of residence. Together, we fulfil people's choices at the end of their life.
We are a charity and the services we provide are free. We rely on voluntary income from local people to deliver the care they deserve.

Experience of working with and supporting volunteers or in a people-focused role.
Ability to recruit, train, motivate, and communicate with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Excellent organisational, administrative, and IT skills, including database management.
Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing priorities in a busy environment.
Commitment to the values, ethos, and goals of St Luke's Hospice.
Desirable Attributes
Experience working or volunteering in a charity, healthcare, or community organisation.
Knowledge of volunteer management principles, recruitment, and retention best practices.
Familiarity with equity, diversity, and inclusion in volunteer programmes.
Event coordination and public speaking experience.
