volunteer Governor (Trustee)

Alcester Grammar School (AGS) is seeking a committed and passionate individual to join our governing board as a volunteer Governor (Trustee). This opportunity comes at an exciting time of strategic change and development. As a member of our board, you will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the school, supporting and challenging the leadership team, ensuring robust financial management, and advocating for the best outcomes for every student. While we are particularly keen to hear from candidates with experience in secondary education or performance data analysis, we welcome interest from anyone passionate about contributing to our thriving school community. Previous governance experience is helpful but not essential, we provide comprehensive training and mentorship to support you.What You Will Do

• Contribute to establishing clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction.
• Support and hold senior leadership to account for educational performance and staff management.
• Oversee financial performance to ensure resources are used effectively.
• Attend approximately 4 full board meetings and up to 6 committee meetings per academic year, ensuring pre-meeting preparation.
• Visit the school occasionally during operating hours to understand the context of board decisions.
  
  Essential: Effective communication skills, an inquisitive mind, a collaborative approach, and basic IT literacy.
• Desirable: Background in secondary education, performance data analysis, budgeting, or HR/performance management.
• Personal Attributes: Strong commitment to child safeguarding, equality, diversity, confidentiality, and high professional standards.
