Full Job Description

We are seeking Befrienders to provide companionship and promote social interaction for older adult residents of Rotherham care homes. This post will be working with the Mental Health Workers within the Care Home Liaison Team. The team provides mental health support to residents of Rotherham care homes. and therefore working primarily with patients with dementia or cognitive impairment, but also with patients experiencing low mood or other mental health conditions.,

  • Providing companionship and promoting social interaction with a range of people, primarily older adults.
  • Providing social support by encouraging and engaging with patients, for example engaging in conversation, reading the newspaper, playing cards, etc.
  • Supporting the completion of "This is me" documents or similar life story documents.
  • Volunteering alongside Mental Health Workers from the Care Home Liaison Team.
  • Providing one to one befriending to patients on a short term basis.
  • Be able to travel independently to Care Home settings, the team covers care homes across Rotherham.
