Full Job Description
We are seeking a well-qualified teacher of German with the ability to teach German A level (Edexcel) to non-native speakers. There may be a possibility of delivering a condensed version of this course to German native-speakers in some years. This is a part-time, flexible position teaching a number of lessons per week, according to demand. We anticipate a tutoring requirement of approximately 4 hours per week for the next year from September 2026; there is also the possibility of additional tutoring in spoken German (similar to the role of a Foreign Language Assistant) for a suitable candidate. Any successful candidate would be expected to adhere to the school's calendar with regards to reports, grade cards and Parents' Evenings (although such meetings may be organised at a suitable time for very small cohorts). All boys will be taught in groups of one or two pupils next academic year, allowing the teacher significant scope to personalise the teaching to boys'
individual strengths. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented educationalist to broaden their teaching experience, teaching small groups of highly motivated, academically able pupils in a supportive environment with excellent facilities.
The role has been designed with flexibility in mind to enable the successful candidate(s) to balance an exciting and challenging workload with other commitments. The scope of this post could be adapted to the professional requirements of the successful candidates, in that:
1. The tutoring could be delivered all by one person, or shared between several tutors (e.g. who are each responsible for one class each).
2. Whilst we believe it is desirable for teaching and learning to be delivered in person, at least some of the provision could be delivered remotely.
3. All boys at Bedford School attend academic lessons on a Saturday morning as part of the routine school timetable; this post could involve teaching on a Saturday as suited the professional requirements of the successful candidate(s)., Bedford School would like all candidates to answer specific questions for the personal statement section. For reference, here is a preview of the questions/headings:
1. Interests and Co-Curricular Activities: Please give details of any interests or skills that you could bring to The Harpur Trust for the purposes of co-curricular and extra-curricular activity:
2. Supporting Statement: Please give your reasons for applying for this post and say why you believe you are suitable for the position. Study the job description and person specification and describe any experience and skills you have gained in other jobs or similar environments which demonstrate your ability and aptitude to undertake the duties of the post. Continue on a separate sheet if necessary.
