Full Job Description
Job Purpose: The main purpose of the post is the OOH triage and emergency care provision of our primary care patients. This will include telephone triaging, consultations, in-patient care, minor procedures, and emergency surgical procedures. They will also support the training and development of our veterinary surgeon and veterinary nursing undergraduates during their clinical rotations. They will participate in an OOH rota that will involve weekend day and bank holiday work. Principal Accountabilities: -
- Provide telephone emergency advice and support for clients of practices using Langford Vets OOH service and to appropriately triage these calls.
- Provide a consultation service for clients whose pets require emergency medical treatment.
- Carry out the necessary medical or surgical treatment required to the standards expected of the RCVS, ensuring that appropriate consent is obtained from the client.
- Accurately record and maintain patient clinical notes and client communication records.
- Ensure excellent communication with clients and practices using the OOH service and ensure excellent record-keeping of these conversations.
- Dispense and administer medication to patients, maintaining accurate stock control and following all protocols relating to drug holding, dispensing, and handling and giving clear and accurate instructions to clients when dispensing medication
- Inform clients of expected costs associated with consultations and treatment provided and ensure that these costs are accurately applied to the client record, with payment taken at the time of discharge where possible.
- Ensure that all patient notes are provided to the practice that the client is registered with within the timeframe required
- Ensure that patients transferred for overnight/weekend hospitalisation receive appropriate care and are appropriately transferred back to the care of the practice or client as appropriate and within the timeframe required.
- Support nursing team with delivery of high-quality in-patient care.
- . Support the learning and development of our veterinary and veterinary nursing undergraduates during their clinical rotations.
- Actively participate and support clinical governance activities within Langford Vets and adhere to Langford Vets policies and processes. · Proactively identify and act upon opportunities for business improvement. Openly identify and discuss problems to implement and sustain improvements that increase the value we deliver to our clients, employees, and students.
- Maintain a good working relationship with all team members.
- Communicate in an effective and pleasant manner with clients and colleagues. § Responsible for keeping themselves and others safe, reporting accidents, near misses and hazards and adhering to health and safety requirements and policies as required by the business/their line manager.
- Carry out all other reasonable duties as requested by the line manager.
Minimum of 2 years post-graduate clinical experience Previous experience of OOH or emergency and critical care provision Able to perform emergency surgical procedures independently Experience of teaching or developing others MRCVS Emergency and critical care qualification or similar Effective communication with all personnel and stakeholders within the company Interest in advancing own qualifications Ability to work within and lead a team Ability to work independently Eligible to work in the UK Flexible approach to work Excellent organisational skills
