An exciting opportunity is available for an Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon to join a busy emergency veterinary hospital in Cardiff, providing essential care to pets when they need it most.
This is an ideal role for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys emergency and critical care, thrives in a fast-paced hospital environment and wants to make a genuine difference to pets and their owners.

The Opportunity
Working as an Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon, the successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of urgent and critical patients, making confident clinical decisions in a busy emergency hospital setting.
The role offers the opportunity to use a broad range of clinical skills, including emergency and critical care, ultrasound, radiography and multiparameter monitoring. A pragmatic, welfare-focused approach is essential, alongside the ability to communicate effectively with clients during what can often be stressful circumstances.

What They're Looking For
- The ideal Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon will:
- Be MRCVS registered with experience in emergency veterinary care.
- Have experience managing emergency and critical care cases independently.
- Be confident making clinical decisions under pressure.
- Deliver excellent patient care and compassionate client communication.
- Remain calm, pragmatic and organised in a busy emergency environment.
- Be comfortable using ultrasound, radiography and multiparameter monitoring.
- Be computer literate and confident using clinical systems.
The Rota
The role averages 33.41 hours per week and follows a highly structured pattern:
- Week 1: Monday-Sunday, 19:45-08:15 - awake OOH shifts
- Week 2: Off
- Week 3: Off
This provides a significant amount of time away from work while offering the opportunity to develop and use specialist emergency and critical care skills.
