Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior, Principal or Associate Vertical Transportation Services Engineer to join our London-based Vertical Transportation team. The role will primarily focus on site-based activities, including asset management, construction monitoring, condition surveys, progress inspections, witness testing and commissioning. It may also include project design, specification, project management and technical leadership, depending on your experience. This is a client-facing role involving regular communication with clients, contractors, architects, property developers, building managers and other design team members. Our portfolio includes residential, science and research, commercial, retail, transport and further education projects across the UK and internationally. Current work includes major City of London asset management and refurbishment projects, super-prime residential developments, European modernisation and lift replacement programmes, national lifecycle contracts and major commercial and education schemes., Depending on your experience, you will:

  • Carry out site condition surveys and inspections of lifts, escalators and moving walks.
  • Monitor construction progress, installation quality and compliance.
  • Review drawings, specifications, technical submissions and programmes.
  • Attend client, contractor and design team meetings.
  • Witness testing, commissioning and validation activities.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications and schedules.
  • Provide expert technical guidance on vertical transportation systems.
  • Lead smaller projects and support larger schemes, including projects exceeding £200 million in construction value.
  • Manage your workload, deadlines and project deliverables.
  • Support multidisciplinary teams and contribute to high-quality project delivery.
  • Mentor junior engineers and share technical knowledge across the team.
  • At Principal or Associate level, you will also:
  • Lead technical delivery on projects and provide technical oversight.
  • Define and agree project briefs with clients.
  • Manage client relationships and support future business opportunities.
  • Contribute to bids, fee proposals and presentations.
  • Plan and allocate workloads across the team.
  • Delegate, manage and review work undertaken by others.
  • Support team development, quality assurance and risk management.
  • Contribute to technical leadership across the Vertical Transportation discipline.

    To be successful, you will have:
  • An industry-recognised qualification, preferably a minimum of NVQ Level 3 in Lift Engineering, with NVQ Level 4 desirable for Principal or Associate level.
  • Practical and detailed knowledge of lifts, escalators and moving walks.
  • A strong understanding of vertical transportation engineering and the practical application of relevant codes and standards.
  • Good IT skills and the ability to produce clear technical documentation.
  • The ability to manage your own workload, priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proactive, collaborative and autonomous approach.
  • The ability to manage challenging situations professionally
  • For Principal or Associate level, experience in technical leadership, client management, workload planning, mentoring, business development, bid preparation or fee negotiation would be advantageous. Previous consultancy experience in one or more of the following areas would also be advantageous:
  • VT design and specification.
  • Site surveys, condition assessments and technical reporting.
  • Construction monitoring and progress inspections.
  • Project management.
  • Commissioning, witness testing and validation.
  • Asset management and lifecycle planning.
  • Facilities management.
  • Client relationship management and business development.
  • Consultancy experience is advantageous but not essential. Relevant experience gained with a lift manufacturer, specialist contractor, facilities management organisation or client-side team will also be considered.
