Full Job Description

As a Vehicle Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the Sandwell MBC's diverse fleet. Based at our central depot, you'll maintain a wide range of vehicles and equipment that support essential in-house and external services such as housing repairs, grounds maintenance, highways operations, household waste collections and street cleansing.,

  • Carry out scheduled servicing, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of vehicles and plant equipment, including engines, transmissions, suspension, brakes, chassis, and electrical systems.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections and prepare vehicles for MOT testing in accordance with DVSA standards and regulations.
  • Diagnose and rectify faults across engine management, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems using advanced diagnostic equipment.
  • Undertake welding, fabrication, and bodywork repairs within workshop capabilities.
  • Attend roadside breakdowns and provide recovery support, ensuring all work is completed safely and in compliance with relevant procedures.

  • Level 3 NVQ Automotive Maintenance and Repair LGV Class 2 Category C Licence - Candidates will be accepted with a category B licence and provided training in order to obtain the required category C licence in 12-months.
  • Experience of conducting maintenance, inspection, repair and test services for a diverse fleet including vehicles such as light vehicle van/Tipper's, Small Plant machines, Sweepers, and Large Refuse Vehicles.
