What will you be doing?
The RSPCA Finchley, Golders Green, Hendon & District Branch is a separately registered charity operating under the RSPCA umbrella. The Branch is currently strengthening its governance framework, stabilising its operating model, and focusing on long-term financial sustainability.
We are seeking Trustees to join the Board at a point where there is a clear need for structured thinking, oversight and strategic input. The Board is evolving, with a focus on building a more robust and sustainable organisation that is able to meet current demand while planning effectively for the future.
Trustees will contribute at Board level, providing independent judgement, constructive challenge and oversight across key areas of the organisation's activity. This includes supporting the development of income generation approaches, strengthening operational structure, and ensuring appropriate governance and compliance frameworks are in place.
The role requires the ability to engage at a strategic level, interpret information, and contribute to decision-making that balances risk, sustainability and delivery. You will work collaboratively with fellow trustees to support a more structured, disciplined and forward-looking approach to how the organisation operates.
This is not an operational role. It is an opportunity to contribute to shaping the direction, resilience and effectiveness of the organisation at a critical stage of its development., This role will directly support the Branch in strengthening its governance, improving financial resilience, and building a more sustainable operating model.
Additional Board capacity will enable more effective oversight, better-informed decision-making, and a clearer strategic direction. It will also support the organisation in developing more consistent approaches to income generation, operational planning and resource allocation.
By bringing external perspective and professional experience into Board discussions, Trustees will help ensure that decisions are well-considered, proportionate and aligned with long-term sustainability. This will reduce reliance on reactive decision-making and support a more structured and forward-planned approach.
Overall, this role will contribute to building a more stable, well-governed and resilient organisation, better positioned to manage current pressures while planning for future development and growth.
We are seeking individuals with senior-level or transferable leadership experience who can contribute effectively at Board level.
Candidates should bring expertise in areas such as fundraising, marketing and communications, legal and regulatory compliance, human resources, EDI, or retail and commercial operations.
Experience of operating in complex or resource-constrained environments is desirable, along with the ability to interpret information, assess risk, and contribute to balanced decision-making.
Previous trustee experience is not essential; however, candidates should demonstrate an understanding of governance responsibilities or a clear ability to develop this quickly.
We are looking for individuals who can think strategically, provide constructive challenge, and contribute to a disciplined and forward-looking approach. Strong judgement, professionalism, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a Board are essential.
